Autistic sensory therapy. Some autistic children have been shown to react positively to sound therapy exposure.Cancer treatment without surgery. Scientists have only recently discovered that high-frequency noise can be used to attack and destroy cancer cells while eliminating the need for surgery that puts the patient at risk of post-surgical complications.Enhancement of acupuncture. Along with colored light therapy, the use of tuning forks in conjunction with acupuncture has been shown anecdotally to be more effective than the use of acupuncture alone.Hospital settings. Musical frequencies have been shown to reduce anxiety and promote higher morale in high-stress hospital and medical settings.Stroke recovery therapy. Music therapy given to stroke victims has been shown to increase the speed of recovery of basic motor functions and speech.Sound healing has been explored in the following areas of human medicine: This is why mystics and musicians have been tapping into this powerful manipulation of sound frequencies to move crowds for hundreds of years. While the effectiveness of healing frequencies is disputed by some scientists, there is no doubt that musical instruments are able to produce frequencies capable of shifting human consciousness. Here are some of the instruments frequently used in sound frequency therapy: Which uses a ncient frequencies as sound therapy for stress management, meditation, mindfulness, chakras and spiritual healing. There is an amazing Sound Therapy and Mindfulness Meditation course offered by Kevin Kockot. Vibrational instruments such as singing bowls and gongs are used to create ripple-like waves of vibrations that are meant to reset the consciousness. Music can evoke an emotional response in the human body that can result in everything from goosebumps to a flood of cathartic tears. And in the modern age, sound frequency healing can be achieved through a variety of methods, from listening to recordings of different binaural frequencies to participating in vibrational-acoustic therapies.Įven though humans have been studying the connection between healing sound frequencies and the operation of the human body since the times of Pythagoras, modern scientists are just as fascinated by the effects that different frequencies can have on the mind and body.Īside from healing sound frequencies, frequencies also affect the body through music. The Solfeggio frequencies have been associated since ancient times with the creation of sacred music (including meditation music) thought to promote healing.Įven as far back as ancient Greece, healing and music have been linked together to both theology and medicine in the form of Apollo. The drumming vibrations that accompany shamanistic trance work speak to the power of harnessing sound frequencies to induce altered mind states. Likewise, holistic healers have recognized that different frequencies of sound have the ability to manipulate the human consciousness and even induced an altered consciousness, as can be seen by the trance states induced by shamanic chanting and drum work. It has been shown by scientific study that even inaudible high-frequency sounds can have an effect on human brain activity. For hundreds of years, scientists have been conscious of the effect of sound on the human body.

What do general ophthalmologists do?Ī patient would see a general ophthalmologist for a variety of eye care services, which include the following: At that point, one is considered a general or comprehensive ophthalmologist – a licensed professional who can perform surgery, and who has been trained in the prevention, diagnostics, and treatment of various eye conditions and diseases. Reaching this milestone requires the completion of a four-year undergraduate program, a four-year medical school program, a one year internship, and a three-year residency program. What is an ophthalmologist?ĭefined simply, an ophthalmologist is a doctor who specializes in medical and surgical eye care. Put a different way, all retina specialists are ophthalmologists, but not all ophthalmologists are retina specialists. Ophthalmologists can become retina specialists if they complete the additional training required to provide retinal care. Ophthalmology is a broader branch of eye-focused medicine, and the retina subspecialty is tucked under that care umbrella. Though there are finer details that distinguish a retina specialist from a general ophthalmologist, the core difference between them is, as the name would suggest, a matter of specialization. Understanding these nuances is important for patients seeking the right practitioner in support of their ocular health. There are several different types of eye care professionals, each with different levels of expertise and who offer specific types of care. Macular pucker usually only requires monitoring, but in more severe cases, your doctor might recommend an operation where the scar tissue causing the pucker is removed leading to improved vision.General Ophthalmologist vs. Symptoms include vision changes, blurred or distorted vision, a graying area, and vision loss in the center of the field of vision. Macular pucker is a condition in which a membrane on the surface of the retina develops over the macula, the part of the retina that is responsible for central clear vision. They may also suggest lifestyle changes to slow the progression of the disease. The ophthalmologists at UConn Health are on the cutting edge of emerging macular degeneration treatments, and they will discuss medical and surgical treatment options with you. It occurs when the central part of the retina begins to deteriorate, causing blurred vision and, in advanced cases, a blind spot in the center of the field of vision. Macular degeneration is a chronic eye disease that is a leading cause of vision loss in the United States today. There may be no symptoms with diabetic retinopathy, so it is important to have your eyes checked by an eye specialist every year. Laser surgery or injections of special medications may be needed to stop the progression of the disease. It is caused by changes in the blood vessels of the eye that can lead to leakage and growth of abnormal blood vessels. Along with controlling blood sugar levels, careful control of blood pressure and cholesterol is also important in maintaining ocular health and overall health.ĭiabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of blindness. In addition to diabetic retinopathy, cataracts and glaucoma are often seen with diabetes. The degree to which diabetes affects the eye is often associated with the length of time someone has had diabetes and how carefully the diabetes has been controlled. Our physician would be glad to discuss treatment options with you.Īdditionally, screening exams are available especially for patients with diabetes, sickle cell, or medications with possible ocular toxicities. Diabetic Eye Diseaseĭiabetic eye disease refers to the effect of diabetes on the eye. Treatment for retinal disorders may include intravitreal injections or laser treatments. Our medical retina specialist treats diseases that affect the inner lining of the eye such as diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusions, and many other diseases. Although, that sure seems cheap for such a nice-looking car. Hagerty is at $5,700 for a #3 good condition car which given the interior changes and the condition, that’s where I would put it at. I hate to focus on pricing but this certainly isn’t even close to being a #1 Concours condition car. They say that the only thing missing is the air-conditioning but I’m not quite sure what that means as it’s clearly visible in the photos and video. 1972 Maverick Grabber - Color: Orange Also, 1976 Ford Maverick 4. Having the bell on the outside rear would definitely make the seats tip inward. I have my buckets out of the 72 right now, but Im pretty sure the bell is for the front of the inside track. The seller provides a video of it running here on YouTube. 70 Maverick Grabber, 72 Maverick Grabber Restomod. They don’t provide a VIN which is very unusual for an eBay auction but the engine should be Ford’s 200 cubic-inch inline-six with 120 horsepower. The steering wheel isn’t original and given just the interior changes alone, I’m not quite sure how they came up with the asking price. The interior looks great but they say that the original bench seat in front has been replaced with bucket seats and the rear seats have had some repairs. The rear window and windshield have been replaced. They do mention some surface rust on the bumpers If I were a betting man, I would have said that it has been repainted at some point, it looks far too nice to be original from 51 years ago, but there’s no mention of bodywork or paint. This car looks fantastic and the seller says that it’s a real Grabber. Talk about a car that doesn’t get much respect! The 1978 Ford Fairmont replaced it in our market. The Maverick was offered in the US until the end of the 1977 model year but they were produced in Brazil until 1979. The 1970 Maverick Grabber didn’t have the twin-snorkel hood like the 19 models had and this beauty benefits, at least visually, from having small bumpers. The Falcon wheelbase was shortened almost 8-inches for the Maverick and they were introduced in early-1969 as a 1970 model. I know that a lot of Barn Finds readers are fans of the original Falcon which was used as a platform for both the Mustang and Maverick but they don’t seem to get the press or the public love as much as the Maverick and Mustang both get for some reason. Maybe it’s like how some countries are better at respecting their elders than we are here in the US, the same can be said for cars. For the record, Hagerty’s #1 Concours, absolutely flawless condition value is $12,100. This orange Grabber can be found here on eBay in Alexander, New York and the seller has a very ambitious buy it now price of $15,300 listed. I wonder why the first-generation Falcon doesn’t get more respect. Unfortunately, the sales started to drop in 1975, which is why Ford replaced the Grabber with the Stallion, a special package with new grilles and equipment.Along with the Mustang, another direct Ford Falcon descendant is this 1970 Ford Maverick Grabber. In summary, the Maverick Grabber attracted all the eyes on the street with its styling between 19. There was also a unique spoiler and five specific colors (two yellow shared, green, blue, and more) that made the Grabber stand out. It also had a dual dome hood (highly sought for today), air vents on the sides, and other extra detailing. The vehicle accommodated fatter tires and a louder exhaust compared to the standard Maverick trim. Other than the muscle-car specs, the Maverick Grabber also had a unique styling for its kind. In terms of power and performance, it seemed Ford made customers' wishes come true. In 1973, you could even get the Maverick Grabber with a 302 cubic-inch V8 engine that produced 220-hp. Throughout the second year of production, the more powerful 250-cubic-inch six-cylinder engine **This airsoft product is manufactured under authorized Centurion Arms license. The CMR rail also has built in anti-rotation QD mounts in 4 positions at both ends of the rail on both sides. However, accessories can be directly mounted to the rail at those positions with the installation of the proprietary simple and light-weight CMR accessory mounts or rail sections (sold separately) only where they are needed. The CMR rail was designed with a top rail that gives an AR upper a continuous rail for mounting accessories but does away with the rails at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions which are often not used thus adding unnecessary weight and bulk to a rail. CMR rails utilizes a proprietary barrel nut which is included along with a gas tube and low profile gas block. Sound waves approaching from the environment bounce off the bony ridges of the pinna such that the higher frequencies reflect off the bony ridges whereas the lower frequencies bend around the pinna. The pinna directs sound into the ear in a funnel-like manner, and the bony ridges of the pinna play an important role in sound localization. The outer ear includes the pinna, the visible portion of the ear coming out of the sides of the head. The inner ear is of vital importance to hearing as it includes the Cochlea, perhaps the most important structure in the auditory periphery, which transduces sound signals into nerve impulses. The middle ear has a series of ossicles, or tiny bones which conduct and amplify the sound signal. Although the visible part of the ear, also known as the pinna, constitutes the outer ear and plays an important role in hearing, The ear also includes the middle, and inner ear, each of which has structures specialized for their functions. “The ear”, for our purposes, is not just what sticks out on each side of your head. we will see how the structure of each part of the anatomy is optimized to perform its function. While both are important functions of the auditory system as a whole, specialized mechanisms are built into the Cochlea and the Superior Olive to enable Tonotopic Mapping and Binaural Hearing respectively. Two of the main auditory function we will discuss are Tonotopic Mapping and Binaural Hearing. Many regions along the auditory pathway serve specific functions, and some aspects of their structure have evolved especially to optimize these functions. (Image by Janina Luckow) Structure vs FunctionĪ detailed look at each anatomical region of the auditory system must include both the structure and the function of each region. Emphasis will be placed on the function as well as structure of each region along the auditory pathway. Both pathways will be discussed in the present unit. Afferent pathways include all neural pathways going from the auditory periphery to the cerebral cortex, whereas efferent pathways are all pathways coming from the cortex back to the periphery. The central nervous system includes theīrain and the spinal cord, with parts of the central nervous system involved in auditory function being in the brainstem, the midbrain, and the cerebral cortex. The auditory periphery includes various parts of the ear and endsĪt the auditory nerve, which leades from the cochlea to the brainstem. The anatomy section of this unit will cover the peripheral and central auditory nervous systems, from the outer earĪll the way up to the secondary auditory cortex. We will consider the importance of hearing protection, and explore various ways to protect your ears. Types of hearing loss and their origins will be discussed. To get a sense of the evolution of the auditory system, we will also compare the human auditory system with that of other animals, noting the commonalities and divergence points of the structures involved in hearing.įinally we look at when the auditory system malfunctions. In addition to feedforward pathways from the auditory periphery to the cerebral cortex (also known as afferent pathways), we will also consider efferent pathways, or feedback routes from the central nervous system to the auditory periphery, which support the view that hearing is not a passive state, but an activity that requires constant change and flexibility. We will discuss how the cochlea transforms sound into neural impulses, which are then to be relayed in various transformations through the neural centers of the brainstem and midbrain before it is processed by the primary and secondary auditory cortices. To understand this system, we will follow the pathway that sound travels from the outer ear to the cochlea. The auditory system is a set of biological structures and functions that enable you to hear. To understand the physiological bases of musical phenomena, this unit will provide an in-depth overview of the structure and function of the auditory system. Much of our auditory and musical functions arise from the anatomical structures of our brain and auditory system. How do you know when you have damaged hearing?.
